GM vice-chairman Bob Lutz said on Sunday that the Cadillac Converj would be the second GM vehicle to be built on the chassis that carries a lithium-ion battery pack and a combustion engine – the latter as flat-battery back-up of 851UY , 8M815
The plug-in Cadillac was “heading for production” and, like the Volt, designed, to be driven for about 60km on battery power, Lutz said.
The Volt will cost close to $40 000. The Cadillac, however, will use technology developed for the Volt but intended for buyers “who don’t mind paying a large price for a luxury vehicle”, Lutz added.
Production plans for the Converj had yet to be determined but it will not be in showrooms before 2013, even though a version of it was shown at the 2009 Detroit show. The Volt is expected on the road by November 2010. – Reuters
